INFO:
Walinas are songs dedicated to the element WATER, sung each October during the 8-day "Champería" festival in San Pedro de Casta, Huarochirí province, Peru, during which all the waterways are cleared out by the community. Together.
They are traditionally written, received and sung without chordal accompaniment.
New walinas are created and sung each year to support the cleaning of said waterways - and it's quite a celebration, as was told to me by Maestro Kike Pinto, honorary member of la Comunidad Campesina de San Pedro de Casta.
Enjoy!
